About The Fruitmobile: Widely considered as one of the most important and iconic art cars in existence, The Fruitmobile was commissioned by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art in 1984 and created by artist Jackie Harris with $600 worth of paint and plastic fruit. It was then auctioned off at the organization's annual gala, and donated back to be a symbol of the Orange Show's mission to support the artist in everyone. Since then, The Fruitmobile has rolled in every Houston Art Car Parade, and has been displayed in many different museum exhibitions. The design of The Fruitmobile is an homage to The Orange Show itself, incorporating figures and sayings that can be seen at the site.
